What Drives Us

Chaos and Joy, Inc. [dba Chaos & Joyis a lean, mean, 501(c)3 nonprofit machine founded and run entirely by volunteers who are old enough to know better, but still young enough not to care, and who believe in the power of public celebration.

Drawing inspiration from  -- and paying the "sincerest form of flattery" to -- a diverse collection of artists including NYC's world renowned Village Halloween Parade, Chaos & Joy also "flattersImprov Everywhere, who --  along with the University of Texas-Austin's "Knighthood of Buh" -- was the catalyst for '08’s ridiculously successful "Boise No Pants Day", tapping into Boise's appetite for the absurd, the joyful, and the unexpected.

A Community Built on Participation

We know that Boise loves to show up. Time and again, this community has shown incredible support for participatory events that break the "fourth wall" of city life. We believe that when a city plays together, it thrives.

Our Mission

Your Chaos & Joy™ is committed to the cultural and imaginative life of Boise, the Treasure Valley, and Beyond, and to the advancement of participatory events in the belief that such events, when artistically inspired, can play a major role in our spirit, economy and lives.

Chaos & Joy™ has at its heart an artistic base and generous spirit empowering people to reach into their imaginations and take themselves physically out into public to perform and to celebrate.

Chaos & Joy™ believes public events of this sort give people the opportunity to claim the open spaces of their City for purposes other than work or shopping; to inhabit them with a sense of freedom and spontaneity; to play, thus renew their relationship to the environment in a playful break from the mundane routines of daily life.
